Definitely worth a visit, more to it than I expected!

My son and I visited Hoa Lo prison and we both enjoyed the experience. I believe it was his favourite sight in Hanoi. It only took us about 45 mins to see everything as the prison is just a fraction of the size it used to be.
The displays are very well done and give a good, yet sad impression of what life would have been like. I thought the history of the museum would be based around the American War but like most parts of Vietnam you soon learn that the battles for independence against the French seem more significant. One of two Guillotines used in the 1930s is on display and sends shivers down your spine. Worth a visit!
