What is Coeliac disease?
Coeliac disease is a medical condition and is an intestinal intolerance to dietary gluten (the protein portion of wheat, rye, barley, triticale and possibly oats). If left untreated, the lining of the small bowel (intestine) can be damaged.
Symptoms:
- Fatigue, weakness and lethargy.
- Flatulence and abdominal distention.
- Diarrhea – this may begin at any age and is often present for years prior to diagnosis.
- Constipation – some are likely to experience constipation rather than diarrhea.
- Cramping and bloating.
- Nausea and vomiting.
